Merry Christmas to everyone! As we wait for our family to arrive for the Christmas celebration, it seemed like a good time to build the 2022 Blog framework which includes the first post. This will allow you to bookmark the URL for future reference, which is: https://schellhasetravels2022.blogspot.com
We had an outstanding 2021 camping season which involved a journey from Iowa down to the southern tip of Florida, up the east coast and then back through the Midwest and home. In 2021 we also visited the last of the "lower 48 states" so from now forward our plan is to go back and revisit many of the states and areas we had not thoroughly explored. The 2022 camping season is planned, but always subject to change. We will get the camper out of storage on 3 Apr 2022 and take it to Goodlife RV for it's annual inspection and to have the wheel bearing repacked. We will take it from there to Griff's Valley View RV Park located just a few miles from our home where we will reload it, make any necessary repairs and get ready to launch out on our 2022 adventures on 29 Apr.
The 2022 trip is shaped like a figure eight. From Griff's (home) we will head north, camping along the way until we reach northern Iowa where we will attend our son Dan's graduation from Waldorf College with his Master's degree. From there we plan to head southeast until we get to the Elkhart/Goshen IN area where we plan to attend the 2022 Alliance RV Rally. Our daughter Jennifer lives just north of there in Michigan so it will be nice to visit them while we are in the area.
Once the rally is over we plan to head south towards KY and visit the Arc Encounter and a niece and nephew in the Louisville KY area. Following the map above, we will swing south stopping at Nashville, Memphis and then up to the Bull Shoals AR area to trout fish in the White River below the Bull Shoals dam. From there we plan to revisit Oklahoma City, Wichita and then Independence MO where we hope to catch a Kansas City Royals home game. The end of the first segment of this trip will bring us back to a short stay in central Iowa where we will unload, reload, and then press on towards daughter Michelle's south of Milwaukee in mid-July where we will attend our oldest grandson's high school graduation celebration.
After the party we will make a stop in Antigo WI where we have camped the past several years and fished with our Air Force friends Greg and Diane Noskowiak. Following our map, from there we head north and west - the Apostle Islands area of WI, Hibbing and Bemidji MN and then on to ND and Montana. We have visited Glacier National Park before but from the west side. This time we will camp on the east side and rent a car so we can drive up the Going-to-the-Sun road which we cannot do in our truck due to it's size.
After Glacier we plan to head south to Jackson Hole WY and explore the Grand Teton's National Park. Then we head back east through WY, NE and ultimately home on 29 Sep. If the plans don't change we will be gone about five months this year rather than six months as in previous years.
So that is about it for now. It is nice to be home for a few months and get caught up on doctor, dentists, optometrist and veterinary appointments, but we are itching to get back after it!!
We hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas and a safe and healthy New Year!
