16 Aug 2022 - Arrived at Medora ND Campground and Dinner with Joe and Kerry Thornell

 16 Aug

We departed Minot ND this morning at 1000 hrs sharp and motored on down Highway 83 towards Bismarck.  WE continue to be amazed at the massive fields of sunflowers!

We turned off Hwy 83 at Coleharbor and headed west over the Garrison Dam that holds back the massive Missouri River.

We headed south for a bit but luckily we were not in a hurry as we are switching from Central Daylight Time to Mountain Daylight Time before we reach the campground.  Check-in is at 1400 hrs Mountain time so we need to pace ourselves on our way down.  We got some help from this big boy!
Total respect for our farmers!  He takes his half out of the middle!

Our route took us west on I-94 for about 80 miles.  We stopped for lunch and Doreen found a $10 bill blowing around while walking Liberty.  She also found a dollar one the sidewalk near Hibbing MN.  She is the luckiest person I know!  She found me too LOL!

On the north side of the Interstate we passed "Enchanted Highway - Geese in Flight".  The sculpture “Geese in Flight”, is currently listed in the Guinness World Book of Records as the Largest Scrap Metal Sculpture in the entire world!

Along the way we noticed many oil wells and neither of us expected to see them here.

The landscape changed as the Badlands came into view.  We will be seeing a lot more of this as we tour the Theodore Roosevelt National Park in the next few days.

We arrived at the Medora Campground at 1511 hrs Mountain Daylight Time after traveling 211 miles and two stops.  We were checked in quickly and our friends Joe and Kerry Thornell greeted us as we pulled into out camping site.  After getting set-up the Thornell's came over and we gave them a tour of our Alliance coach.  After catching up with them we decided to head downtown and enjoyed dinner at Boots Bar and Grill.
So great to see our friends again!

Tomorrow we plan to visit the south end of Theodore Roosevelt National Park
