Greetings from the Wind River RV Park in Riverton WY. This is stop# 32 out of 37 for this trip - definitely on the homeward stretch!. We pulled chocks this morning at Fireside RV Park and headed out. To get north and east from our RV park you basically have to go through the town of Jackson, and it took us right at a half hour to go the first four miles from the RV park to Jackson. Traffic was insane when we got here and at a crawl when we attempted to leave, and we will not miss that! We will miss the Tetons!
As we drove north out of Jackson and passed the turnoff for the entrance to Grand Teton National Park, we said goodbye to the Grand Tetons, barely visible in the smoke and the haze that lingers. But, the Tetons did not disappoint as a "fluffy cow" came out to send us on our way!
The first waypoint in our GPS was programmed for the Continental Divide today, 62 miles down the road. We started at about 6148 Ft elevation and climbed to 9584 Ft elevation at the Divide. I'm so glad we have a turbo diesel pulling our Alliance fifth wheel, although the climb was more gradual than coming into Jackson from Idaho, and the descent was only about 6%. .
It is said the Great Divide, also called the Continental Divide, is one of the most geographically significant lines in North America. It is a line of high terrain at the crest of the continent that forms the boundary between two great continental watersheds. We saw this previously on this trip near Hibbing MN where there was a triple divide called the "Hill of Three Waters".
6% descent coming out of the Continental Divide. Not bad.
The further east we traveled, the more the landscape changed. Again, we took over 100 pictures but will only post a few here.
One of the largest towns we passed through was Dubois WY and there is quite a bit to see there, so much that we want to return tomorrow without the RV, and with the dog, so we can take our time in town. More about that tomorrow.
The Dubois Badlands
We arrived here at Riverton at 1239 hrs traveling 173 miles - a relatively short day for us. We got busy getting checked in and set up, and failed to get any pictures but this campground is pretty basic. We are here for four nights.
