17 Jun 2022 - Campground Chores and Tulsa Baseball

 17 Jun

Busy but quiet day at the campground.  I worked some paperwork and phone calls this morning and got a lot done.  Doreen did three loads of laundry.  The campground laundry facility has fairly new machines - three washers and three dryers and only $1/load!  Cant beat it.  She also did some cleaning in here.

In the lawn next to our coach we noticed these odd mud-like mounds.  They are obviously created by a local creature but we have yet to identify it.  Before we leave I will check with the campground owner.  He will surely know.

After lunch we researched the Tulsa and Pryor OK areas and neither of us got all excited about doing much touring with the temp hitting 96F and heat index over 100F.  We have yet to see any baseball games this year, so it happened the Tulsa Drillers are in town.  They are the AA affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball club.  Tonight they are hosting the Wichita Wind Surge, the AA affiliate of the Minnesota Twins.  The Drillers play at the ONEOK Field which is straight west of us about 38 miles.  So we got online and secured tickets.  Parking is free at the Oklahoma State University-Tulsa campus just a couple blocks for the ballfield. Nice!

Game time is 1905 hrs so we departed about 1730 hrs and headed west on Hwy 412.  before long we arrived at the stadium and proceeded to the parking area where there was plenty of room for our truck.  We walked under the interstate overpass and captured this picture of a mural that had been painted.

Soon the ONEOK stadium came into view.  It is Star Wars night here so not sure what we will see there!

Our Apple Wallet tickets were scanned and we entered the stadium.  There we were greeted by the Star Wars cast in full costume.  I cannot imagine how hot they were in those costumes!
We made our way around the stadium and checked out the various concessions all the way to the outfield where they had a $4 beer special until game time, so we took advantage of that, as long as we were there don't you know!  A few pictures from around the stadium:

Game time was 1905 hrs so we grabbed a quick hotdog and Doreen got a nacho, and we headed for our seats, which were on the third base side.  In these smaller stadiums you can sit further into the outfield and still have a perfect view of the game.  .

Even though the seat selection was limited when we bought our tickets, there were many empty seats throughout the stadium.  We left before the end of the game as we had a 45 minute drive back to the campground.  On our way out Doreen posed for a picture with the Star Wars crew!

The Tulsa Drillers would go on to beat the Wichita Wind Surge 5-0.  We are glad we drove to Tulsa to see this game.  Tomorrow we will head into Pryor to do some shopping and prepare to depart to our next stop near Oklahoma City OK.
