3 Jun 2022 - Mary Todd Lincoln House, Lexington Brewery, Last Night in Kentucky

 3 Jun

Our last day in the Lexington KY area so we slipped down to Lexington to visit the Mary Todd Lincoln house, sample the brews at the Lexington Brewery, pick up a few things at the store, and return to the campground to get ready to bug-out in the morning.

Streetside view of the childhood home of Mary Todd Lincoln

So first stop, the Mary Todd Lincoln childhood home.  The house was built in 1806 as an inn.  It bought by Robert S, Todd in 1832.  Mary Todd was born in Lexington in 1818 and moved to Illinois in 1839.  She met Abraham Lincoln there and they were married.  Abraham and Mary visited this house in 1847.  Mr Todd lived here until 1849 when he died of cholera and the remaining members of the family moved away.  The house served various functions from a brothel to a warehouse for a hardware store and was left in disrepair. Finally the Governor's wife made it a priority the house be saved and so it was remodeled and is now a museum open to the public.

The house has been beautifully restored and we toured it today.  Here are a few pictures:

After our tour  we headed a few blocks away to the Lexington Brewery.  Time prohibited the full tour so we went into the gift shop and sampled some of their brews.  They also have a distillery here.

Our beer-tender set us up with a flight of five different beers, including Bourbon Barrel Ale, Tangerine Cream Ale, Vanilla Barrel Cream Ale, Irish Red Ale, and a Blueberry Ale

I am not much on flavored beers so I was not a fan of most of them but the Bourbon Barrel Ale was really good.  Funny, talking with our bartender, he asked for our zip code and most of these beers are sold in our home town in Iowa at the local Hy-Vee grocery store just a few blocks from our house!  I had no idea they shipped them out that far!  We bought a sampling to enjoy on the road.

Back at the campground we made preparations to depart tomorrow.  Doreen did the last of the laundry while I dumped tanks, stowed hoses, etc.  There were two other Alliance RV's that arrived while we were gone.  We stopped and talked with one couple and there was no one around the other one.
This 310RL is owned by Ron and Robin Bohannon from Pennsylvania

This looks like a 310RL and appears to be from Texas

That's it for tonight.  Tomorrow we move to Nashville!  Next report from there in Central Daylight Time!!
