1 May
Today the rain was more of a drizzle and the wind was a bit more tame, but it was still chilly. The few weekend campers that were here departed and we were one of only three RV's in the entire park with the exception of two Camp Hosts. It is so strange to see this campground so empty. Most every other time we have been here it has been very busy with few if any camp sites available. The lake is busy with power boaters and sail boats. It has really been quiet.
After lunch Liberty decided she wanted to go on a long hike so we headed around the other side of the lake beyond the cabins.
I think this is the first time we ever got a close look of the cabins and they are usually occupied. They look pretty nice through the windows, nicely furnished and equipped. From the shore there you could see our Alliance fifth wheel in the distance, sitting all by itself!
After our walk we settled in to watch the Cubs Brewers game and soon our friends from Story City arrived to take us out to dinner. I served for many, many years with Chief Master Sergeant Terry Greenfield. Terry was the Medical Group Superintendent at the 132d Fighter Wing. Terry was also a paramedic for many years so we had a lot in common. Terry has been retired for quite a few years, but he and his wife Jerry have remained active in the Enlisted Association of the National Guard of Iowa and the American Legion.
Last October Jerry caught COVID and was seriously ill for quite a long time. She was placed on a ventilator for a while and was hospitalized over 60 days. She beat COVID and is recovering every day. Having been down for that long she lost all her strength so recovery has been slow but steady with physical and occupational therapy. We are so thankful she is doing great!
Terry and Jerry arrived at the campground and we headed out for Kamrar Iowa, just a few miles from here. Soon we arrived at Pickles Pub, a local bar that also serves food.
That wraps it up for today.
