12 May 2022 - Last Day at Caboose Lake Campground

 12 May

As mentioned before, we changed our plans here and are leaving a day early so we can get to Elkhart in time to see our daughter Jennifer and her family including our grand daughter Lindsey playing in a volleyball tournament this weekend.

So today was laundry and maintenance day.  I hauled Doreen and all of our laundry over the the building this morning and she loaded up three machines with our towels and clothes. Around the campground there are various railroad paraphernalia that adds to the uniqueness of Caboose Lake!

I stopped in the office and paid for the privilege of washing our coach and truck.  The fee fairly nominal for the convenience of being able to do it right here.  So I washed off all the Iowa and Illinois bugs and grime from the trailer, and that is a sizable job but a necessary one.  The bugs really accumulate on the front cap and if left there they can become nearly impossible to clean off.  Cleaning is just one small task in the long list of maintaining your RV...!

Doreen finished up the wash, so we hauled it back here, had some lunch and headed into town to the local IGA for a few groceries.  I also stopped for fuel for our trip tomorrow.  I found $5.399 diesel which is the least expensive around here.

We continued stowing items and making ready to leave in the morning, and then when the sun went down a bit I gave the big ol' brown truck a bath.  She is looking sweet for a 2013 with 97,622 miles - not even broken in yet!

We completed our other pre-departure tasks such as flushing the sewer tanks, stowing the hoses, etc and while I finished all that up Doreen took Liberty out for a final stroll around the lake.

We've enjoyed our short stay here, but this would not be our first choice for an extended stay.  The campground is adjacent to I-65 off-ramp and the noise from the vehicles passing by and semi's downshifting with their exhaust brakes chattering is incredible and it is constant - day and night.  No thanks!

Tomorrow we will depart mid-morning and enter waypoints for Elkhart Campground in Elkhart IN.  We will be there 13-22 May and then move to the Elkhart County 4H Fairgrounds Campground where the Alliance 2022 Rally will be held.

Next report, Elkhart Campground!
